Pays Basque Travel

10/10 Photography Project

Family Trip to French Pays Basque

We spent a week of terrific family holidays in west south of France. Pays Basque or (Basque country) is just the perfect combination of beaches, mountains and countryside. I don’t mention the wonderfull food. I ‘ll write another post on that. It’s the kind of holidays where you eat all the time haha!

We spent such a great time there that I had to use this month 10/10 photography circle to share with you my ten favorite pictures. Hard work!

I will have to write another photo post to show you the beautiful architecture. For the ones who follow me on Instagram, you know how much I fell in love with windows and doors of the colorful houses.

Ok let’s jump in the beauty of Pays Basque. Come on with me! We exchanged our home with a lovely family based in the country side of St Jean Pied de Port, a village on the road of Saint Jean de Compostelle.

This is the view from the terrasse of our holidays home. Such a great view. When the sky is really clear we could see snow on Pyrenées mountains.

countrysideWe were very lucky with the weather. As you may guess there is a lot of rain in that soooo green countryside!

pissenlitsHow dreamy is that little part of the field?

pays basque campagne When I saw this old rusty barbed wire, it made me think of the great pictures of my blog mate Sally from this blog. She inspired me to take this kind of picture.

OK now, let’s go to the beach my friends! beach

This is Hendaye beach. We saw a lot of surfers and improve our jumping picture shooting!

We went to Saint Jean de Luz where we had an amazing sunny day.

plataneI loves all the plane trees. They didn’t have their leaves yet.

As a little teaser I’ll show you just a last picture of architecture. Please come back in one week, you’ll get full of architecture! I promise!

  • Cathy these are stunning!!! What a wonderful place to holiday. I love travelling through your photos. You’ve got that jump shot perfected. Those dandelions are completely dreamy. Can’t wait for all the architecture. Jx

  • Wow Cathy! Great photos and such a beautiful holiday spot. There are a lot of plane trees where I grew up and where I live now but they never get terribly tall here. I will never forget the enormous plane tree in the courtyard of a beautiful home we stayed in in Avignon several years ago. I didn’t know they could get so tall!
I love that dandelion shot too – and your daughter jumping. I’ve also been enjoying your coloured doors on Instagram xx

    • Oh you’ve been in Avignon! I love that part of France also! It’s our dreamy place to move in some day… Plane trees are so elegant arent’they? xx

  • Your photography is just stunning Cathy! and what a great getaway… Beach, mountains, fields… It really had it all and has given me a huge case of wanderlust!
I love the barbed wire shot, perfectly captured. Look forward to the architecture post soon! Xx

    • Thanks lovely! We didn’t have enough time to visit everything we wanted so… we’ll have to go back! haha xx

  • Magnifique! Gorgeous Cathy! Thanks for teasing us with the red window shutters!

    • We should make a doors and windows club haha! There are a lot in my own city in fact i should take more pictures of where I live to show you! xx

  • Gorgeous shots Cathy. Thanks for sharing more lovely scenery from France! I would love to go back and explore more.

    • You have to come back and we’ll have a glass of wine (not beer i swear) and I will take you in all the history parts that you would love. xx

  • Just breathtaking Cathy! I gazed at your photos for ages. My favourite is that night shot with the moon – amazing! x

    • Thanks Lisa. I haven’t got a tripod so it took time to make a homemade kinda Mcgiver installation. I used the window and boxes to put on my camera! Haha! xx

  • Very inspiring Cathy. I love your photos. Looks like the perfect holiday

  • Beautiful photos Cathy. That dandelion one is spectacular.

    • Thanks Karin. I enjoyed very much to take those. Tonight will be posted the second round! xx

  • It looks like a picture perfect holiday! I love them all but I think the beach jump is my favourite!

  • Jacinta Barnes

Such lovely photos!! My parents are in France at the moment and the photos they are sending through make me want to visit! It looks like a gorgeous place!

  • Jo

Your pictures are divine as always Cathy! Love the green fields, rusty wire fence and dandelions. Sublime! Can’t wait for next weeks photos xx

  • Your tones!! Amazing!!! You’ve made me hungry for a holiday too! Who looked after Little Vador? xo

  • I love that you aren’t Australian – it’s such a pleasure to see photos that are so interesting because the places are unknown to me. It’s like a real little journey! x

  • DIVINE! I wish we lived so close to such beauty in another country. If you’re from Australia, family holidays tend to be in Australia. Not that that’s a bad thing, but you get what I mean. I ADORE France. x

    • Of course, Australia is like the whole europe or even more! France is small. When I’ll be travelling in Australia, how will i manage tochoose where to go??? xx

  • PTAK

  • Cathy I love these photos! How very lovely! It looks like y’all had a fantastic time in such a beautiful place. The dandelion fluff & the barbed wire fence are my favorites.

    • Dandelions are nice and dreamy, aren’t they? I like all those details in photography. But I really would like to play with a 24 mm just to see… xx

  • Mum Of Five Girls

Oh I knew I shouldn’t have come here lol !!! I so wish I was there!! Maybe someone would want to house swap with me so I can go to France lol !! I’ll be back for the architecture for sure!!
